Starting on Friday, March 5th, Platte Valley Medical Clinic, a division of Kearney Regional Medical Center, will no longer be receiving allocations of COVID-19 vaccine from the Two Rivers Public Health Department (TRPHD). Instead, TRPHD will be taking over administration of the vaccine and setting up public vaccine clinics.
Bill Calhoun, CEO of Kearney Regional Medical Center said, “We are proud of the work our team has done to-date to deliver nearly 4400 doses to our most at-risk patients. While we would like for that distribution avenue to continue, we will support the community as best as we are able.”
The change in distribution was made by TRPHD on Monday, March 1st following the approval of the one-shot Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. Use of the single shot formula will better allow public vaccine clinics to be conducted without the need for a second follow-up dose to be scheduled and administered.
Platte Valley Medical Clinic will be completing any pending second dose administrations with current patients, but will not be able to administer any new vaccine to patients under the new directive. The Clinic has begun contacting patients that were previously scheduled to receive the vaccine to notify them that they will need to contact TRPHD to schedule an appointment at an upcoming public vaccine clinic.
The first public vaccine clinic will be held on Friday, March 5th at the Viaero Center in Kearney from 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Vaccines will be given only by appointment and must be scheduled in advance through the TRPHD website, trphd.org. For questions, call 888-669-7154.
